Skelly Primary School is named after William Grove Skelly (June 10, 1978- April 11, 1957) who worked in the oil business. He founded Skelly Oil Company and helped organize the first International Petroleum Exposition in Tulsa. He also worked in aviation and created the Spartan Aircraft Company (Which is today the Spartan School of Aeronautics). He also donated funds to the University of Tulsa and to KVOO, a Tulsa radio station.
The Skelly Primary building first opened in 1966 as the John James Audobon school. It temporarily closed in 1986 due to low attendance, but reopened in 2002 with a dual language immersion program. For many years the school was an extension of the Eisenhower immersion program and evolved to become the first site for Zarrow International school. When Zarrow International relocated in 2012, the school became Skelly Primary.
